Micellar Water: Fab or Fad?
Micellar water, in the past couple of years, has had a surge in popularity with tons of different options all throughout the market. Versions of these products have actually been around for decades with the French brand Bioderma being one of the most popular. I personally have used the Garnier version pictured below and have been very happy with it :) I also carry them in my professional makeup kit and love working with them. I get A LOT of questions about them so I compiled a list of them below...hope it can be helpful for you as well! xx
What is Micellar water anyway and why should I use it?
Micellar water is a cleansing water that contains molecules called micelles. Micelles act as a surfactant booster. Essentially, that means the micelles act like magnets to any dirt, oil or debris and remove them from our skins surface which is what makes it a "cleansing" water.
When should I use it?
I would recommend using it like a toner. Apply after you cleanse in the morning and again in the evening or whenever you need a quick refresh.
Who should use it?
Anyone can use it. There are so many different kinds of micellar waters on the market now so if you have a particular skin concern or are looking for a sensitive version, there is one out there for you!
Where can I use it?
Micellar water can be used anywhere on your face that needs to be cleansed. It can also be used literally anywhere-- a sink is not required as you don't need to rinse it off!
How should I use it?
You can pour a bit onto a tissue, cotton pad, whatever works best for you and apply wherever your face needs a cleanse. Just gently wipe where you need it and any makeup/oil/dirt easily comes off. This particular product even removes waterproof makeup (and so easily!) which I love for both myself and my clients. You can also use it on your hands like a hand sanitizer and to clean your makeup brushes as well.
Where can I buy it?
Micellar waters are so popular now and can be found at most drugstores, department stores, Sephora, etc. Brands from Garnier to Caudalie to LaMer all offer these waters with various benefits! They range in price from about $3.50 to $90. The picture above is linked to shop the Garnier waterproof micellar water!
